On Sunday we visited the North Carolina Museum of Art to view Ansel Adams: Masterworks and Glory of Venice: Renaissance Paintings (1470-1502).
The two special exhibits are now my most favorite special exhibits out of all of my visits in the past.
Who is Ansel Adams?
Ansel Adams (1902 – 1984) was an American photographer who is renowned for beautiful nature and landscape photography.

Adams had a talent for bringing his black and white photos to life. Each with a story to tell.
With patience and play with natural light, he had the ability to capture moments and froze them in time.
His photography invokes a calm silence; it is very impressive!
Meshach loved learning about Adams’ photography techniques – nothing like our digital age photography.
Some of our favorites from the collection of 48 works chosen by Adams before his death, are “Redwoods”, “Moonrise” and “Oak Tree Snowstorm”.
Glory of Venice: Renaissance Paintings
If you’ve been following along on our social media accounts and the blog, you will know that Italy is my most favorite country.
I felt like a kid in a candy store when we entered this exhibit!
Twenty out of the fifty works of altar pieces, painting and portraits are on loan from Venice’s Gallerie dell’Accademia.
One of our favorite artists featured in the exhibit are the works of Venice’s own, Giovanni Bellini.
Did you know the cocktail called Bellini was inspired by his painting technique of detailed shadings and rich colors?
The Renaissance is in my opinion the most historically creative era for the arts.
So many great Italian artists we know of today came from this era.
The Art Museum
This is a great place for kids and adults!
After we viewed the special exhibits, we spent some time at the Museum Park.
Of course Tristan was ecstatic about playing in their sand box and slide!
I think we’re going to need a second trip there.
On our way out, we stopped to see some of the permanent collections.
The great thing about this museum is admission is FREE (except for special exhibits) so it is good on the wallet.
Ansel Adams: Masterworks ends this week on May 7th and Glory of Venice: Renaissance Paintings ends on June 18th. You really should go see them before they’re gone!
