We were hosted by Brookgreen Gardens, as always opinions are our own.
Many visit Myrtle Beach for its long stretch of beaches, but did you know that south of Myrtle Beach’s busy hub, there is a garden oasis?
Brookgreen Gardens is a sprawling property of 9,127 acres of stunning gardens, statues and beautiful wildlife. It’s a combination of art, botanicals and a zoo.
It was like stepping into a world of enchantment.
Masters of Art
I really love flowers, but I think the sculptures and intriguing art pieces really fascinated me. My absolute favorite is this labyrinth created by the artist, Patrick Dougherty made of sticks.
Tristan loved playing hide and seek throughout the display.
There is an entire area of the property that is solely dedicated to sculptures of all kinds. Another favorite of mine called “Diana of the Chase” at the Diana Pool. Also, “Dionysus” in Gretchen’s Garden.
Dionysus in Greek mythology, was the god of wine – which so happens to be my favorite drink! And wow, check out all of that gold! It is gilt bronze.
Natural Wonders
Walking the paths throughout the gardens, you will find gorgeous oak trees offering shade on a hot day. I would’ve spent most of my time looking up at these majestic trees.
They’re addictive!
“Me? I’ve had so many names. Old names that only the wind and the trees can pronounce.” – Pan’s Labyrinth
We looked at our map and noticed a special area called the Enchanted Storybook Forest, so naturally Tristan wanted to go. But on our way, we met some very cute friends!
Lowcountry Zoo
Brookgreen Gardens not only houses statues and gardens, but it is also a wildlife preserve.
Here, you will find native animals in very well maintained habitats as natural as can be. There are Bald Eagles, hawks (a lot bigger than I thought they were!), ducks, red foxes, otters and even alligators.
And yes, even some farm animals too!
You can also visit a special exhibit, The Whispering Wings Butterfly Experience, featuring many species of butterflies. You’ll need a special ticket to get in to the exhibit with prices now at $4 for adults and $3 for children in addition to your Brookgreen Gardens admission ticket.
Storybook Forest
We could not get Tristan away from this spot. He would’ve spent the entire day playing at Enchanted Storybook Forest with the other children. It is such a cute play area for kids!
His favorite is the Brookgreen schoolhouse that looks like it’s made of Legos.
There are so many other things to see at Brookgreen Gardens, I recommend taking at least a day to really walk through and enjoy all that it has to offer. And if you get hungry, there are a few places you can go to for a meal (and a break from the heat) if visiting in the summer.
