Hidden Prague: Colloredo-Mansfeld Palace

We visited Colloredo-Mansfeld Palace – a hidden baroque palace that is a minute’s walk from Old Town Bridge Tower and the Torture Museum.

It’s really easy to miss since it’s on the way to Charles Bridge but we found it! We learned about the palace by recommendations from Prague locals, Janek and Honza from Honest Guide Prague and Alexane from The Travelling Frenchy.

Another reason why doing your research before a trip is beneficial, otherwise we may never have known this place exists!

About

In the 18th century, this palace was reconstructed into a Baroque style completed by Prince Heinrich Paul von Mansfeld-Fondi. He was from the noble family, House of Mansfeld.

Fun Fact: Oscar winning Czech Director, Miloš Forman filmed parts of the movie, Amadeus at Colloredo-Mansfeld Palace. Rumor has it, that Mozart himself played concerts a few times at the palace as well.

Colloredo-Mansfeld has seen many owners in its lifetime such as Count Joachim Andreas von Schlick who was executed for participating in the Prague Estatesʼ rebellion.

The Ballroom

In present day, the palace hosts art exhibitions and classical concerts particularly in its captivating Baroque ballroom. Walking underneath the frescoes and grand chandelier that adorn the ceiling, you can imagine yourself hearing a symphony of music. The ballroom in my opinion is the highlight of the palace!

Fun Fact: The frescoes were painted in 1760 are still well preserved without being touched.

The ballroom gave us Beauty and the Beast vibes!

I can honestly say I don’t know as much information about the palace as I’d like, but I really wanted to share our experience touring it on a rainy day in Prague. It may be hundreds of years old, somewhat abandoned, but it is still an unforgettable beauty.

Before I go, allow me to spam this post with more photos! Sorry, we were only allowed to use our phone camera as flash photographer and any other camera are not allowed inside.

It was also a cloudy, dreary day outside so the interiors were poorly lit. I had to edit them to pull out all of the shadows and bring some light to the photos. I bet it’s even more gorgeous on a bright day with the sunlight through the windows.

And the beautiful, soft pastel colors you see, they are real!
