The royal wedding is upon us! This Saturday, May 19th Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are getting married at Windsor Castle and I can’t wait to watch it!
I think what draws millions of people to take interest in the event is because royal weddings are somewhat like watching a real life fairy tale story unfold.
Not only that, their wedding is going to be at a castle! If that doesn’t sound fairy tale enough then I don’t know what else would.
Speaking of Windsor Castle, while everyone is speculating wedding costs and other details, the history geek in me wants to talk about the venue itself.
St. George’s Chapel
It’s true they are getting married at Windsor Castle, but the ceremony will actually be on its grounds at St. George’s Chapel.
In 1475, the building of the chapel began under the reign of King Edward IV and wasn’t completed until 1528. King Henry VIII along with his third wife, Queen Jane Seymour are buried in a vault under the quire. The chapel also provides a resting place for many other royals.
Windsor Castle
Windsor is located an hour away from London. Built in 1070, by William the Conqueror, the first Norman King of England, Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world.
It has over 1,000 years of history and is an official royal residence of Her Majesty The Queen, Elizabeth II.
Like many castles, it was built as a fortress, however over the years the monarchs converted it into a royal residence. King Henry I was the first to use it as a residence.
Windsor Castle sits on 13 acres of land and has 1,000 rooms.
Plenty of space for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to stay the night before the wedding, but they are checking in to separate hotels instead.
A Royal Affair

The wedding is at noon Greenwich time on Saturday, May 19th and officiated by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby. There will be 600 guests at the wedding.
After the ceremony, they will attend a luncheon hosted by Queen Elizabeth II in the castle. Later, there will be a private dinner reception for 200 people hosted by Prince Charles at Frogmore House.
Their cake is an interesting flavor –Â lemon elderflower created by Claire Ptak, the owner of the London bakery, Violet. I have a feeling it’s going to become very popular this wedding season!
There are many speculations of the total cost of the wedding, but I’m sure we can all agree it will be in the millions. However, I do know that the Royal Family are footing the bill.
While me and Meshach did not have a large, expensive wedding, if you’re curious you can read about how we cancelled ours and went to Italy instead!

What was your favorite part about the wedding? I pretty much loved everything but I think my heart cracked into a million pieces when Harry said “I’m so lucky” after seeing her. I probably squealed from joy at the restaurant. lol!
Hi Ana! Omg everything LOL I saw Harry say something to her but didn’t know what it was until someone during the live coverage pointed it out. I knew whatever it was, it was sweet! I also really enjoyed the solo cellist performance by 19-year-old Sheku Kanneh-Mason. He is so talented and my favorite song was the first one he played. I think I saw on the internet it’s Maria Theresia von Paradis’ “Sicilienne” – beautiful piece 🙂
