Father’s Day Weekend + LEGO Juniors Lightning McQueen Speed Launcher

This past weekend was Father’s Day. We usually do low key things at home to celebrate. This weekend Tristan and Meshach grilled almost all of our meals, watched Netflix and played with LEGO Juniors Lightning McQueen Speed Launcher set from Disney Pixar Cars 3.

Tristan was so excited when we surprised him with the 47 piece set sent to us by the friendly team at LEGO.

It’s suggested age range for the set is 4 – 7 years and although Tristan is inching closer to 4, he did not seem to have any trouble putting it together. He also has experience with “big kid” LEGOs because he plays it with his older cousin.

What’s Inside

–   A simple instruction guide

–   Lightning McQueen from Disney Pixar Cars 3

–   Easy to Build Speed Launcher with a leaderboard, launch function and a starting ramp

Lightning McQueen

Tristan is a big fan of Disney Pixar Cars. He must’ve watched it on Netflix hundreds of times. It never seems to get old for him.

In this LEGO Juniors set, Lightning McQueen is ready to race from the starting launcher!

All you need to do is place Lightning McQueen on the launcher and hit the red button. Off he’ll go! It’s very simple to do, although Tristan did ask for help a couple of times before getting the hang of it.

If you want to know the specs according to the LEGO website: Lightning McQueen measures over 1” (3cm) high, 2” (7cm) long and 1” (3cm) wide. The Speed Launcher measures over 2” (6cm) high, 4” (11cm) wide and 2” (6cm) deep.

Just the right size for tiny hands like Tristan’s to launch Lightning McQueen into the race.

Bonding Time

The boys had a great time building the Speed Launcher and Tristan has been playing with it all weekend (and helping daddy grill!)

I remember playing with LEGOs when I was a child. It’s a time honored tradition in almost every childhood and we are so glad to pass it along to Tristan.

Thank you to the team at LEGO for sending us the LEGO Juniors Lightning McQueen Speed Launcher for review. As always, opinions are our own.

Stay, Eat, Play: Landmark Resort

This year we visited Myrtle Beach in South Carolina and stayed at Landmark Resort. It is one of the 14 resort properties managed by Vacation Myrtle Beach – the friendliest place on the beach!

Situated along the famous Grand Strand, it is ideal for families, couples, friends and solo travelers.

It’s conveniently located within a few miles away from all of Myrtle Beach’s popular attractions.

With 17 indoor and outdoor pools, lazy rivers, waterpark, kiddie pools, game room, fitness center, and unlimited putt putt, you will not be bored.

There is also private access to the beach so no need to find a parking spot like the public entrances.

Did I also mention Landmark Resort has the only enclosed crosswalk in Myrtle Beach?

Above Ocean Boulevard, it crosses to their parking garage, H2Oasis Waterpark and Putt Putt.

Stay at Landmark Resort

We were so excited to return to another great Vacation Myrtle Beach property. Last year we stayed at Captain’s Quarters Resort which you can read on our blog, here.

We stayed in the Oceanfront Executive Suite at Landmark Resort.

One of the things we love about Vacation Myrtle Beach resorts is the option to cook and dine in our room.

Majority of their suites include a full kitchen – microwave, coffeemaker, stove, cookware, dinnerware and full size refrigerator.

There is also a bathroom, hair dryer, in-room safe and free Wi-Fi.

We enjoyed watching the sunrise each morning from the private oceanfront balcony too.

Tip: If you wake up early, you may spot dolphins in the ocean. This typically happened around 7am when we visited in May.

Not only can you stay for a nice vacation, but you could rent or buy a unit!

Units that are available through the front desk can also be booked via Vacation Myrtle Beach reservations or through Landmark Resort.

The units are individually owned but not all are through the front desk.

To buy a unit, you can do so through the on-site real estate office which is a separate entity from Vacation Myrtle Beach.

Once an owner purchases a unit or before they purchase they are welcome to chat with the Landmark Resort homeowner rep to learn more about joining the rental program.

Eat

Landmark Resort also has year-round dining with 6 on-site eateries.

The Gazebo Restaurant for breakfast, Latitudes Bar & Grill for lunch and dinner, Havana Java Bar is open daily and serves Starbucks.

The fish sandwich at Latitudes was addictive and delicious. I ordered it twice on our visit!

The absolute best dessert we ate was also at Latitudes Bar & Grill. You must order the fried cookie dough with vanilla ice cream – so good!

Seasonal and poolside dining include Tipsy Turtle Pool Bar serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, snacks and light meals. Also, Seaside Pizzeria and Shark Bites Snack Bar are available during summer months.

Play

There is so much to do at this resort, especially when you have to keep kids entertained.

I really enjoyed their Putt Putt course at H2Oasis. I can’t remember when it was the last time I played, but it was so much fun!

Of course Tristan tried to cheat the game and walk the ball to each hole proclaiming he’s a “winner!”

Silly toddlers.

Putt Putt is available daily for Landmark guests and you can play as many games as you’d like.

Tip: If you arrive before check-in, you can leave your luggage with the front desk staff and take advantage of all resort activities such as the waterpark, putt putt, pools and beach. They will call you when your room is ready.

Every day was a beach day for us. Tristan absolutely loves the ocean. He also loves indoor pools which luckily there were many to choose from.

The indoor pools came in handy when the weather turned windy and dropped in temperature on our first day there.

Indoor pools are perfect if you visit the resort during cold weather months. They have heated pools so if it’s cold outside, you’ll be nice and warm inside!

Tristan brought along his favorite toy shark since he couldn’t play with it on the shore.

Say “hello” to his new friend, Sharkie!

Friendly Resort

The staff were wonderful! If there was something that we needed (extra coffee for the room, towels, etc.) they delivered right away.

All staff at Vacation Myrtle Beach properties undergo training to specialize in creating happy guests. So much that there are many repeat visitors so Vacation Myrtle Beach is doing something right!

We’d like to thank Landmark Resort and Vacation Myrtle Beach for giving us the opportunity to experience another remarkable resort.

For more information or reservations, visit Landmark Resort or Vacation Myrtle Beach website.

We were hosted by Vacation Myrtle Beach at Landmark Resort in exchange for a review on our blog. As always, opinions are our own.

Home office white desk with decor

Our Home Office Makeover

We’ve been living in our home for almost 8 years now and until recently we are sprucing it up starting with our home office.

Our home office was used as a guest room, storage space, a food pantry and the list goes on. It wasn’t until after watching an inspiring documentary on Netflix called Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things, we decided to make a change.

It gave us a different perspective on our home life and what we can do to change our somewhat chaotic environment.

The White Desk

For over a year I was obsessed with wanting a white desk in our home office (thanks to Pinterest). I used to turn my nose up at “simple” decor and furniture but maybe since I’m older my tastes have changed.

We considered buying a white desk but the really good ones were expensive!

We also had a large, brown wooden desk that we didn’t know what to do with – keep it or toss it? It’s a really good desk so we decided to paint our existing desk white.

Meshach spent an entire weekend sanding, priming and painting our desk. I sort of helped (more like handing him brushes and such!) This is how it turned out.

We also replaced the brass desk knobs with round, nickel knobs that we bought for $1.97 per piece at Lowe’s Home Improvement.

The paint we used was leftover enamel paint we used for touching up the white trim in our home.

We used remaining primer from Meshach’s chicken coop project last year.

The brown desk chair with white cushion was purchased at our local Habitat for Humanity ReStore for only $5!

The padding needed to be reinforced so Meshach fixed that with some scrap material he had laying around.

Wall Shelves

Before the paint could even dry (literally!) I started talking about the idea of wall shelves over the desk – poor Meshach!

He found some leftover wood in our garage and used them to make brackets and shelves. He also painted them white to match the desk.

I was so excited when everything was finished and couldn’t wait to decorate!

Home Office Makeover

Not only did we give our wooden desk and its wall space a total makeover, but we did the same for the rest of our office.

We bought another desk (from the same store as the chair) for $45. The desk was originally going to be for Tristan, but now it’s Meshach’s photography desk.

Our bookcase got a makeover as well and we moved furniture around to create a more open space in the office. Now our bench sits peacefully by the window – not a wall.

Please excuse the weird lighting – I tried to fix it lol

I will work on a video on how Meshach painted our desk so look out for that on our YouTube channel in the next few weeks!

Also, I’m looking for a couple of cute quotes or prints to frame on each side of the wall shelves. Any suggestions on where to find some prints and what quotes would you recommend for a blogger’s office?
