We spent the weekend on a rooster hunt (metaphorically speaking not literal), how was yours?
It all started earlier last week when I received a text from Meshach. It was a photo of a 20inch tall decorative rooster statue at our local Ross store. Little did I know, that rooster was going to set the tone for the rest of the week.
When I saw the price tag for $18.99 on it I texted him back: “Just saw the tag on the rooster. That’s a nope!”
Let The Hunt Begin!
Over the next couple of days since he didn’t buy it, he often talked about how he wishes he could have gotten that rooster.
He said he couldn’t find anything like it online and that all he could find are mostly colorful roosters, some with the cost of hundreds of dollars. We weren’t going to pay that much!
So when we returned to the shopping center over the weekend, I said “hey, your rooster is next door!” Meshach was excited to finally go back and buy it.
But unfortunately, it was gone.
Meshach had serious regret about not buying it in the first place. He really wanted it because he thought it was the coolest one he had ever seen. It was perfect for our new kitchen decor.
And so the hunt began…
Night Owls
After dinner, we stayed up until 1 or 2am Saturday night looking online from reverse Google image search to searching rooster statue keywords and even the tag numbers we found when we zoomed in on the store photo.
I wish someone made an app for things like this.
Oh Rooster, Where Art Thou?
I even reached out to Ross across all of their social media accounts to see if they could tell me more information about it and where to find another.
Determined to find that rooster – I also posted about it on Facebook, my Twitter and Insta Stories. But no such luck!
By any chance would you anyone be able to tell me who makes this particular decorative #rooster? My husband saw it at the Garner, NC @Ross_Stores earlier this week but it was no longer there when he went back to buy it today and he really loved it! #RossDressForLess #homedecor pic.twitter.com/EJUv4VuQS6

Have A Little Help From My Friends
However, we finally made some traction when I reached out to a local Facebook group for moms. Within minutes of my post, a fellow mom saw my post and sent me a link to the statue on Wayfair with this caption:
“I enjoy a good hunt but Ross wasn’t joking when they said they had it for less.!”
Not knowing what she meant, I clicked the link she sent me and saw the price for a whopping $81.90!!!! We definitely should have paid $18.99 for the one at Ross.
If you’re curious (or interested in buying one for $80+) you can find this Rosalind Wheeler White Alexandra Rooster Statue from Wayfair and from Better Homes & Gardens for $84.99 here.
Needless to say, buying it online was out of the question. However, it was great to find the information we needed to identify the maker of the statue!
Others who commented on my post also said to check: Hobby Lobby, Tractor Supply Store, and Carolina Pottery for similar statues.
I direct messaged Wayfair on Instagram and Facebook. I told them the situation and asked if they could price match Ross’ price. They said no.
Another door closed shut on our hunt for the rooster. It felt like all odds were against us.
Good News
When we woke up Sunday morning, Meshach made a phone call to a different Ross location and guess what??? The rooster was there! He asked the employee to hold it for him at the front desk.
We hopped in our car and drove to the other Ross location. With our fingers crossed, hoping it was the right one – we approached the store entrance and there it was on the desk.
We got our rooster y’all!!!
In case you couldn’t imagine, Meshach was ecstatic!
After taking it home and comparing it with the one online, we think it’s possibly a knock off version of the Rosalind Wheeler statue. The one online looks shiny – a bit more glammed up and the one from Ross is not. But that’s ok, because we love the way it is!
Moral of the story? If you want something – get it while you can or it might lead you on a rooster hunt!
P.S. Tristan also found Chicken Little on a Goodwill outing with Grandma – he too was excited about finding his new farm animal friend!
