Fairview Dining Room’s Weekend Holiday Brunch

On Sunday, we took a little road trip to Washington Duke Inn & Golf Resort for an indulgent weekend brunch. If you’re a huge foodie like me, put this on your bucket list of holiday must-do’s and you will not be disappointed!

It felt so good to be back for our second visit. You can read about our stay on an earlier post here. We really love this place!

Cappuccino

Appetizers

We brought Tristan (our little one) with us for his first visit to the inn and ate the best brunch at Fairview Dining Room (AAA Four Diamond, Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star rated restaurant.) The restaurant offers plenty of fine dining options including Afternoon Tea which we also love!

Nathaniel was our amazing server that day. Our three course brunch began with two cappuccinos for Meshach and I (Tristan got orange juice.) Immediately after we ordered, a basket of warm, assorted breads were placed on our table.

I spotted a buttery, flaky croissant that was calling my name!

We opted for something light and ordered seasonal fruit and yogurt as our appetizers. There are other options to choose from such as: oatmeal, mesclun salad, soup du jour, shrimp, and corn & bacon chowder.

Main Course

It was honestly hard for us to decide what to order for our main course when the time came. There were so many delicious options to choose from! Did we want to order one of the classics or step outside our comfort zone and try something new?

Steak and eggs

Chesapeake Lump Crab cake

Chicken tenders from Little Devil’s Menu

Tristan got his favorite, chicken tenders from the Little Devil’s Menu (Kids Menu). Meshach ordered the grilled Angus beef tenderloin medallions with a side of Chesapeake lump crab cake. I decided on Nathaniel’s suggestion: Joyce farms fried chicken & malted Belgian waffle (chicken & waffles) – which I had never eaten before!

Chicken and waffles

Have you eaten chicken and waffles before? It is life changing! I’ve heard about it for years and thought it would be the weirdest food combination but I was wrong. It’s a perfect pairing of savory and sweet flavors with a light crunch in every bite. I don’t know who invented this dish, but whoever they are – it’s a genius idea!

Dessert

After we finished our main course, we were directed to the dessert table. It’s a buffet of cakes, chocolates, parfaits and other sweet items. The dessert table is included in the brunch so help yourself!

We stayed awhile, listening to the piano player and chatted with a few of the staff we met on our last visit before making our way to see the Christmas decorations. Tristan loved all of the lights!

One of the staff saw that we were admiring the decorations and told us about a mini winter wonderland down one of the halls. So of course we had to see it for ourselves!

And then we saw this…..

They were animated elves! I’ll post a video of it later on social media.

But most of all, the adorable thing for me was Washington Duke Inn’s teddy bear. I saw one in their gift shop over the summer and wanted one so bad!

I can’t stress enough how kind the staff are at Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club. I’ve said it before in my last posts that their hospitality is warm and feels like a second home. I’m not saying it because we were hosted by them for both visits. I am always honest with our readers. A meal and/or a stay is definitely worth the splurge if you’re looking for something to do on a special occasion or just want a nice weekend getaway (especially if you love to golf!)

They are holding several dining events over the holidays: Christmas Eve Tea, Weekend Holiday Brunch, New Year’s Eve Dinner and more. You can view the dining schedule here but make reservations, it’s getting booked out fast!

We were hosted by Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club, as always opinions are my own.
